Girls Basketball Captures Holiday Tourney
January 8, 2019
GURNEE, Il.- While the majority of us spent the days following the holidays relaxing and unwinding with family and friends, the Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team was busy hitting the hardwood at the Blue Devil Classic tournament held at Warren Township High School. Seemingly outplaying Warren, Deerfield, Quincy, Carmel, and Grayslake Central, no team seemed to pose enough of a threat to stop an already blazing-hot Scouts team as they captured their second consecutive tournament championship. After taking down a 13-win Grayslake Central team to finalize a perfect tournament run, the Scouts extended their win streak to eight games. By the end of the stretch, junior Halle Douglass and senior Grace Tirzmalis earned All-Tournament nods. Not to mention, during their matchup against the Quincy Blue Devils, Douglass became Lake Forest’s all-time assist leader, surpassing Delaney Williams’ (‘17) record of 391. Below are the final scores and leading performances from each of the games, including a conference game held at Zion-Benton prior to the tournament.

Following an impressive showing at the Blue Devil Classic tournament this winter break, head coach Kyle Wilhelm’s bunch improved to (15-4, 5-2) on the year. The Scouts take on rival Libertyville (13-5, 7-1) in Wednesday’s conference match-up at home. In what marks their first action at home on the season, look for Lake Forest to continue to add to an already remarkable win streak.
