Business students hope to create Buzz with new restaurant app

Business Incubator members Caroline Allard, Stephen Bradley, Rylie Mills, Patrick Moorhead, and Asher Anderson have joined forces to create an app, Buzzy, that will show you wait times of a restaurant before you even step foot inside.

The app uses real-time user-generated data to give the accurate wait time at any restaurant. Users can sign up for the app and are awarded points for submitting the correct information about a restaurant’s wait times.

The team hopes to partner with restaurants so they can promote their restaurant through the app by sending out notifications about deals at their location.

“We have the potential to help people on a large scale- both everyday people and restaurants looking to expand their customer base. We first have to start locally to test out the feasibility of our product, and we’ll expand from there,”  Allard said.

Buzzy hopes to provide a color-coded display system for people to easily identify the wait times of restaurants in any given area. (Green color over the restaurant= short wait time, etc.)

They got the idea for this app from gaining the freedom of going out to eat with their license and finding that they went out almost every morning to popular places like Starbucks and Einsteins.

They soon realized that everyone had this same idea to grab breakfast before school or work, and got caught in lines that caused them to have to leave the line to go to school before ordering. They felt that their time and patience was wasted after this repeatedly happened, and wanted to find a way to fix this.

So far this year, they have spent the majority of their time validating their idea to make sure it was viable for the real world. They have completed 200+ problem and solution interviews, and have created their business model canvas to map out exactly what their app will provide and look like.

They are planning to talk to app developers and local restaurants, and have begun the creation of their website and Instagram to promote the app’s idea. (@buzzyinc)

Business incubator teacher Phil LaScala called the app “very innovative.”

“They have great team chemistry,” he said.

If you are a person who likes the idea of deciding when and where to have your next meal before even needing to leave the sofa, keep your eyes out for Buzzy.
