VERNON HILLS, Il. – Simply put, the Antioch Sequoits girls basketball team (0-4) couldn’t keep up with the high-octane Lake Forest offense in the final game of the Cougar Classic Tournament last Tuesday. The Scouts’ explosive offense, topped off with a strong all-around defensive effort on the opposite end of the floor, made for a runaway game early on. Limiting the Sequoits to only four points by the end of the first quarter and six points in the second, Coach Kyle Wilhelm’s team closed out the half with a commanding 30-10 lead.

It was only a matter of time before the Scouts–now undefeated with a (5-0) record on the year–pulled away for their fifth consecutive dub, making them champions of the Cougar Classic Tournament with a 57-26 win over the Sequoits.

Once again, junior guard Halle Douglass, who recently added Division I scholarship offers from Illinois and Marquette, continues to draw attention to herself with her impressive play. By the end of the night, Douglass finished with 19 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Sophomores Lilly Trkla and Molly Fisher made notable contributions as well, totaling 10 and 7 points respectively. Senior Grace Tirzmalis collected 6 rebounds while putting up 9 points herself.

Though the Sequoits couldn’t pose much of a threat to Coach Wilhelm’s team, the Scouts will certainly be tested tonight at 7pm when they travel to Libertyville to take on the Wildcats. In what marks their first taste of NSC play, the Scouts look to keep their win streak alive against one of their biggest rivals.
