VERNON HILLS, IL. – After what many would consider a shaky performance in their win over the Caxys of Lake Forest Academy last Wednesday night, the Scouts (3-0) quickly seemed to turn things around in their emphatic 57-32 win over Elk Grove on Saturday afternoon.

Right from the get-go, head coach Kyle Wilhelm and his crew opened up the game with their foot on the gas and never looked back, closing the half with a convincing 29-9 lead over the Grenadiers. Not to mention with the return of senior forward Ellie Pearson–an absolute powerhouse in the post–the Grenadiers simply couldn’t slow the Scouts down on the offensive end.

As a whole, the team saw considerable improvement in just about every offensive category, connecting on 17-24 (71%) of their shots from the free-throw line, while sinking 6-16 (38%) of their takes from behind the arc. Junior guard Halle Douglass continues to impress with her eye-opening numbers, nearly recording her first career quadruple-double. When it was all said and done, Douglass finished the night with 20 points, 14 rebounds, and 7 assists. Senior forwards Ellie Pearson and Grace Tirzmalis made significant contributions as well, adding 7 and 10 points respectively.

On the defensive end, the Scouts wreaked havoc on the Grenadiers’ offense, coming up with a notable 12 steals and 8 blocks–all 8 of which were from Douglass’s commanding defensive efforts. Sophomore Finola Summerville reeled in 3 steals while Douglass stole the ball a total of 6 times herself.

Wilhelm and Co. return to Vernon Hills once again tonight for their scheduled 4:30 p.m. tip-off against the hosts of the Cougar Classic tournament. With momentum riding high after Saturday’s all-around team victory, the Scouts look to add yet another tally to the win column against the Vernon Hills Cougars.
