Sophia Bienkowski

The Girls’ Cross Country team has been busy as its season is winding down. On Saturday, October 13th, the whole team competed in the North Suburban Conference championship. With over 600 athletes running, the competition was extremely high. Senior Lauren Garriques placed in the Top 10 in the varsity race 19.04.9.

Senior Captain, Courtney Schmidt stated, “I feel so lucky to have been on a team with these amazing girls. They have not only made this season unforgettable but each and every one of them has had a positive impact on my life. They are the strongest and most hard working people I know. I couldn’t imagine high school without seeing their smiling faces in the halls. This team is truly amazing and I can’t wait to go into the postseason with them.” Schmit will be competing in the final races of the season as a star member of the varsity team.

This Saturday, 14 girls will be going to the regionals. Of those 14, 7 will be running. The seven are Lauren Garriques, Skylar Kreunan, Katie Hart, Gabby Brown, Lauren Zarek, Ashley Bufe, and Chloe Tzau. The other seven varsity athletes are Carrie Saginur, Courtney Schmidt, Bridget Eckland, Kate Wildman, Isabella Graf, Ava Schumann, and Kenzie Ong. All 14 runners have worked incredibly hard and have a tough couple races left. After Regionals come Sectionals and then finally State where a few expect to place. For anyone looking to come support the girls’  cross country team, the Regionals will be this Saturday 10 a.m. at Fox River Park.
