This week the Boys Varsity Soccer team hosts its annual season kickoff tournament featuring Carmel, Highland Park, Deerfield, Dundee Crown, Lakes, Round Lake, and Zion-Benton. The action began Tuesday night and continues through Saturday. With a team full of veterans, the Scouts look to have a bounce-back year after their struggles last fall.
The team took the field for the first time Tuesday against the Highland Park Giants. The Scouts showed flashes of strong ball movement throughout the entire game but failed to hit the back of the net. Junior Carter Collis and Goalie John Walsh both were standouts in the opener as they fell 2-0.
Senior captain Aved Markarian is ready to take the next step as a leader and role model for his younger teammates. He echoed that Juniors Oliver Akintade and Nico De Filippis are two midfielders to watch this year.
“Both players have gotten more comfortable controlling the ball on offense and letting the game come to them” said Markarian.
But the X factor for the 2018 Scouts is goalie John Walsh. He needs to be a brick wall for the boys all year in order for the team to be successful.
Come support the Boys Varsity Soccer team at 4:30 p.m. after school as they take on the Lakes Eagles at West Campus!
