The girls badminton team’s season has come to an astounding finish, as they placed 15th in the IHSA state tournament – the highest finish in school history. Emily Gorczynski, the senior superstar, led the team in the singles competition as the only senior downstate. Her presence as the leader for the Scouts was a major key in their run. Nika Belova and Grace Geschiedle, both of whom are sophomores, also had a solid go-round as a doubles pair. Considering they are both sophomores, the future is bright for the girls badminton team. The other doubles pair, juniors Anisha Paruchuru and Paige Dillow, battled hard in their matches and helped the Scouts place 15th.
With a young set of players–and a great coach in Nicole Frye–who has really shaped this program and brought them to their highest finish in school history. The Badminton team looks to be a program within the school on the rise, and a team that we as a school should rally around and congratulate as they continue to make it down state.
