LAKE FOREST–Last night, senior shortstop Caleb Durbin eclipsed the career hits total of 111 previously set by J.R. Reimer, now finishing his career as a player at Northwestern, with a line shot to left in the first inning.

Durbin, who is committed to attend the University of Washington in St. Louis next year to play baseball, is one of Lake Forest High School’s lone three-sport stars. A gifted athlete with strength, speed, and a tremendous competitive spirit, Durbin played football in the fall, made it to the IHSA state tournament individually as a wrestler in the winter, and has been a steady contributor offensively and defensively for the resurgent Scouts baseball team this spring.

Durbin’s older brother, Regis, was the school’s first individual wrestling state champion in 2014, and the younger of the two siblings has certainly made his impact on LFHS athletics in his own right. A three-year starter at the shortstop positions, Caleb Durbin has been a stalwart force for Coach Del Fava over the years, and has solidified his legacy as one of the most talented, consistent contributors in LFHS baseball history.

Congratulations to Caleb Durbin on his record-breaking 112th hit of his career. With a few games left in the season and then the IHSA state playoffs, Durbin has a chance to extend the record into June.
