LAKE FOREST, Ill.– The Lake Forest Scouts softball team opened their home season at West Campus Tuesday night, but it didn’t go according to plan. Though the Scouts (0-2) have only played two games this season due to unpredictable weather, their first conference game was against a traditionally formidable conference foe, the Lake Zurich Bears.
Senior Margo Fleming took the mound for the Scouts, and the Bears took advantage of the Scouts’ young defense early. Lake Zurich built an early lead they would never relinquish, and rode their momentum to a 14-0 win that was shortened by the 10-run slaughter rule after 5 innings.
The Scouts continue their conference season today on the road against Libertyville. Margo Fleming will again be pitching for the Scouts as they search for their first win of the 2018 season.
