The Wall of Fame is one of the most iconic features within Lake Forest High School. The Wall celebrates notable alumni and sports teams that have achieved great accomplishments during their time at Lake Forest. We see familiar names, like Tommy Rees (former Notre Dame QB), and Matt Grevers (Olympic Swimmer), and Matt Vogrich (University of Michigan basketball player), who were all former athletes at LFHS that have made a stamp on their hometown by exhibiting the characteristics of greatness.
That is what The Wall truly represents: greatness. Weeks ago, one intramural basketball team displayed an incredible amount of this aforementioned greatness in the Senior League Intramural Basketball Championship. Team Kyle Wix sealed their fourth consecutive Intramural Basketball Championship with a 40-29 win over KFC Buckets. No team on record has earned four straight championships at Lake Forest High School. Team Kyle Wix recorded a very impressive 34-2 record (94.4%) over four years. They had notable wins over talented teams as well, including a regular season win over Cal Wonham and the very athletic Italian Stallions. They knocked out Taylor Gang in the semi finals and defeated Prime Time Silver Bison in the championship a season ago. Prime Time was the best sophomore team in the Frosh/Soph league in 2014-15. The next year they took down the newly formed, and very talented team of Team Jack Gough in the semifinals and went on to roll over Nickelball in the championship.
Team Kyle Wix enjoyed their first ever undefeated season and had an impressive championship win over KFC Buckets a season ago. These statistics solidify why Team Kyle Wix is undoubtedly the best intramural team in LFHS history, and perhaps, one of the greatest sports team to ever play at Lake Forest High School. The sheer dominance of Team Kyle Wix over a four year period makes the case, without question, that the young men involved on this team deserve to be honored on the LFHS Athletic Wall of Fame.
Assistant Athletic Director and Commissioner of the Intramural Basketball League, Mr. Morehead, has already shut down the idea of allowing Team Kyle Wix on the Wall, because they are not considered an “official sports team” of LFHS. However, just because a team is labeled as intramural in nature does not mean that they have not had a clear impact on the sports culture at the high school. I will be starting a petition around Lake Forest High School to get Team Kyle Wix on the Wall of Fame. I will undoubtedly procure 1,000 signatures of students and staff, and then it’s up to the athletic office to decide on how they will honor the TKW legacy.
