This year has been especially challenging for freshmen and sophomores. After a year of e-learning, many students are still not comfortable in the halls of the high school.

Senior Madelyn Liebelt  tries to go the extra mile when it comes to welcoming people. She uses her outgoing personality to strike up conversations with anyone she can.

“Madelyn is one of the only people that I know that can just instantly bond with someone. She has an outgoing nature that is unmatched,” senior Sheridan Leahy said.

Madelyn has used this quality of hers for the greater good. She shared her compassion with others this summer: She volunteered at SALT, Love to Learn, Feed My Starving Children and Beacon place. She mixed her passion for volleyball with her love for helping people by teaching volleyball clinics at a summer camp for kids in Waukegan.

Outside of volunteering, Madelyn is the libero for the Varsity Volleyball team. She is widely regarded as one of the most valuable and caring players on her team.

“The first thing that you will notice if you are around Madelyn is a contagious smile, a giggling, laughter, and her straight joy of being around other people and it just makes her a complete magnet of other people with positive energy,” Coach Mr. Werner said.

She has played volleyball for  seven years and plays not only for the high school team, but continues to play year round with her club team, Sky High.

Senior Elizabeth Casper who plays with Madelyn on Sky High said, “She is one of the most positive people on the team, regardless of if we win or lose she always encourages us to do our best. She brings a presence to the team that many people admire.”
