Tyler and Ryan McFadden

Seniors Tyler and Ryan McFadden are not a monolith.

Sure, they might share the same friends. They’re both vital members of the varsity volleyball team. And the LFHS chapter of Future Business Leaders of America appreciates their twin leadership greatly.

Tall and athletic, they certainly look like brothers. But no one would confuse them for being identical.

“They’re both different, so you kind of get the best of both worlds, but they still share the same McFadden quality,” said longtime friend Ian Jackson. “The McFaddens are the best people you could know.”

If you’ve tuned into the Talent Show at any point over the last few years, there’s no doubt that you would have seen Ryan, either jamming out as the director of the pit band or on center stage as a member of an interminable number of musical acts.

“Ryan McFadden is without question one of the most kindhearted and warm people I know,” said senior Lucy Rubinstein, who worked closely with Ryan to nail down the music for the show. “He demonstrated his outstanding leadership qualities, by choosing the Pit music, teaching it to the Pit Band, and directing us throughout the recording process.”

A versatile performer, Ryan is just as comfortable with a set of drum sticks in his hand as he is with a guitar pick between his fingers.

Often wearing a hat, and not afraid to don a Philadelphia Eagles jersey in support of his hometown team, Ryan is known for his easy-going demeanor.

“Although there may have been some especially stressful moments, Ryan never failed to stay positive and put a smile on everybody’s face,” said Rubinstein.

Tyler has established himself as a leader on the varsity soccer team, an aggressive striker, and a compassionate teammate.

“Tyler has always been much taller than me, but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s a very genuine person who cares about his friends and teammates are doing,” said Stewart Swift. “He’s someone you can always rely on and I’m glad I got to know him growing up.”

This fall, they’ll finally peel apart, and head to different schools ― both equally prestigious ― on opposite ends of the East Coast. Ryan, to Boston College and Tyler, to the University of Virginia.

“I believe in McFadden supremacy,” said Jackson.

“Long live Ryan. Long live Tyler.”
