Reagan Fisch, the gymnast

Sophomore Reagan Fisch is a record-breaker.

As a freshman on Varsity Gymnastics, Reagan broke beam record with 9.5 at the Stevenson dual, the all-around record with 37 at a conference meet, and the floor record with 9.6 at the Lake County Invite.  She won all-around at two different meets and made it to Regionals before her season ended with an injury.

Like so many of the students featured in 16 and Under, her passion started at a young age.

“My mom put me in the toddler classes, but I continued to do it because I really love the sport and especially getting close with your teammates,” she said.

But all of these great moments in the sport have come at a cost.  Last season, she fractured her foot at Regionals, which ended her season early and killed her chance at State.

“It’s hard to maintain our skills for the next season and it can be easy to get distracted and not want to practice. When you have a bad day it feels like you just want to give up. It was super frustrating to have to get my skills back in time.”

Despite struggling with a foot fracture, she still went to practice everyday to cheer on her teammates.

Gymnastics might sometimes be mistaken as individual sport, but Reagan says she gets as much excitement from cheering on her teammates or working with them to learn new skills.

It helps that her sister, Kristen, is a teammate.

“Competing on a team with my sister is fun and offers extra encouragement. My sister and I have a good sense of comradery on a team with an added aspect of healthy competition. We are always trying to build each other up and push each other to be the best we can be.”
