Owen Abrahamson
The pressure of being a drummer is not always easy. You’re expected to be the backbone and the driving force behind everything your band does. This can deter people from drumming as it requires hours of practice a day, and incredible dedication to reach the skill level required for being such an important part of a band.
This is something that junior Owen Abrahamson has mastered. With the constant stress of juggling school and everything else going on in his life. Abrahamson still makes time, everyday, to practice his drumming and further perfect his technique. He has been taking lessons since the first grade, and although he doesn’t like to admit to being a prodigy. His already masterful understanding of the drums and their importance would say otherwise. He’s a very chill but lively friend, and extremely humble when it comes to talking about his drumming,
Abrahamson is currently in a band called Beach Street an indie band started in New Trier and you can check them out on Spotify.
Abrahamson’s bandmate, Rocky Shapiro, a junior at New Trier described Abrahamson to have a unique drumming style, one that separates him from everyone else. Abrahamson’s drumming style is not only extremely complex but completely intentional. Every one of his beats feels as if it belongs there and as his bandmate had said “there are many.”
The second Abrahamson starts playing, the band clicks in and he takes control. Rocky described him as being the backbone of the band, and says that his groove and feel for the drums is impeccable. And you can see this in his performance, he’s able to stay on beat while making it look entirely effortless.
“He stands out from everyone else I’ve played with,” Shapiro said.
Abrahamson has talked about wanting to go into music as a career. And while he is very humble about his skill, it’s obvious that he’s going places.
“Owen is the only one who can’t be kicked out,” said Josh Spinner, one of the singers and guitarists of Beach Street.
Abrahamson is a vital member to Beach Street with the bandmates constantly boasting about him. His importance to the band further proves his dedication to the drums and his undying love for music.
