Mr. Lester Long

It’s easy to see why Coach Lester Long is a legendary character in the LFHS community.

“He has such a vibrant personality,” said senior Zach Porter. “He has a great influence on everyone who has the privilege of knowing him.”

Long was a stand out basketball player at North Chicago High School in the early 1960’s. He’s now a member of the Lake County High School Sports Hall of Fame.

He’s used his experience with athletics to coach just about whatever team he can. Whether he is playing football at soccer practice or pulling up in one of his vibrant suits, you never know what he’s going to do on any given day, but you know it’s going to be fun.

Long always makes people feel comfortable and welcome. He’s always cracking jokes and having fun with everyone.

“Coach Long was someone who made you feel welcome from the start of freshman year,” said senior Stewie Swift. “The freshman year transition is tough, and he made it so much smoother.”

Long has dedicated his time to making the community a better place, and has accomplished just that. By showing off his vibrant persona and caring personality, Long has earned the respect and admiration from many students and athletes.

“Everyone loves him,” said senior Wilson Irvin. “There isn’t a person who isn’t smiling or laughing when Coach Long is around.”
