Mr. Dave Lane

For most students, the District 115 Board of Education is simply a mysterious group of community members who govern LFHS. They feel as if the finances and affairs of the school board aren’t directly pertinent to them and that the elected community members will take care of all that comes their way. However, at the helm of the school board is one of the hidden gems of the community, a man who everyone should know, Mr. Dave Lane.

Mr. Lane, the father of seniors Ethan and Josh and daughter Sophia, plays a pivotal role in the Lake Forest – Lake Bluff community. Now in his second term on the Board of Education, he has used not only his background in finance but also his charisma and community involvement to guide the school district.

In addition to his role on the school board, Mr. Lane is extremely supportive of his boys’ cross country team. He was a constant presence at races for the past four seasons and one of the most encouraging figures for the whole team.

“Mr. Lane was such a positive force for [the team]… Whether it would be before a race, when he’d wish me luck while I was really nervous or after a race when he’d be one of the first guys to compliment me, I was always overjoyed whenever I’d see him,” said Varsity Cross Country runner Sam Rappin.

Mr. Lane is an avid runner himself. Often cruising through the town with his boys or by himself, he has established quite the running pedigree in the Lane household.

“He’s dedicated to everything he gets involved in – especially running. He sets a great example for Ethan and Joshua. I believe he finished 5th in his age group in the Pumpkin Chase this year. He’s just incredible,” said senior Ben Rosa.

Mr. Lane also serves as treasurer for Boy Scout Troop 42 and is heavily involved at Union Church of Lake Bluff. As a leader of the troop, he’s a figure that the members have looked up to for years.

“[Mr. Lane] has been a real leader for our troop. He’s always able to lend a helping hand and he’s super fun to be around,” said Rosa.

Aside from his business acumen and constant community involvement, there is one thing that truly sets Mr. Lane apart: his rapping ability.

Only a lucky few have been privileged enough to witness his unique ability; however, it has left a profound impression on them.

Rappin said, “I was honestly shocked when he rapped for us at a camp out. He was so good, and it just goes to show how he never fails to surprise and impress you.”
