Will Geary

Moving from Georgia just before freshman year, hints of a southern twang still linger in junior Will Geary’s voice. This twang can be heard constantly in the halls, as Geary, who quickly acclimated to Lake Forest, is able to strike up a conversation with seemingly anyone.

“He seems to just float through the halls. He’s always grinning and always has a story to tell. He never fails to amuse and entertain whoever he’s with,” said junior Trip Pierce.

Geary runs cross country in the fall, plays Varsity basketball in the winter, and runs track in the spring. Although running and basketball require very different skill sets, Geary brings a high amount of energy to each team.

“He always has energy. Whether it’s in the locker room after a loss or on the bench during a close game, he is always able to pick his teammates up and get the boys going,” said senior basketball teammate Andrew Levin.

In cross country races, Geary uses his intense competitive streak to push himself to the limit against every single runner.

“Oh he’s an absolute dawg during cross country races,” said Pierce. “He’s a grinder. He doesn’t take well to people passing him. During conference our sophomore year, he even got into a scrap with a runner as they approached the finish line.”

In addition to bringing constant energy, Geary has grown into a team leader by using his experience transitioning to high school as a way to mentor overwhelmed underclassmen.

“He’s just so easy to talk to. Even with me being a freshman and him a junior, he always would have words of wisdom to give me and the other freshmen at practice,” said freshman teammate Will Atzeff, who Geary affectionately calls “Lil’ Uga.”

Aside from playing three sports, Geary is a dedicated scholar. An impressive and disciplined work ethic allows him to efficiently divide his time and thrive both in sports and school. And when he’s not studying or playing sports, he enjoys relaxing at the beach.
