Carter Mitchell
In searching for someone that epitomizes what it means to be a student-athlete, look no further than senior Carter Mitchell. After undergoing knee surgery just eight weeks ago, Mitchell has worked tirelessly to get himself back onto the basketball court before the season reaches full speed.
Mitchell’s work has not gone unnoticed. Senior teammate Andrew Levin highlights the infectious work ethic he brings to the team on a regular basis.
“He brings great energy to the team. He has worked really hard to get back to playing over the last couple of weeks. Even when he’s not playing, he brings great enthusiasm and talks a lot on the bench,” Levin said.
Adding another layer to his already busy schedule, Mitchell has been forced to include physical therapy to his after-school agenda of basketball and school work, which includes two AP classes, but he has remained the same upbeat and well-rounded individual with his peers despite the imposition of recovering from injury.
Senior Connor Clark describes Mitchell as a friend who he can always rely upon to get a good laugh.
“Carter and I have lunch everyday, and it’s the best part of my day. We are able to relax for a few minutes in between classes, and he always has something funny to say,” Clark said.
In the spring, Mitchell looks to continue playing baseball in his final year of high school on the varsity level, preferably as a pitcher where he has excelled in past seasons.
“Mitch always demonstrates high character and has a contagious personality where he knows exactly when it’s appropriate to crack a joke and when to be serious both on and off the diamond,” senior teammate Mathew Casper said.
