Kristen Carlson
Kristen Carlson, who teaches AP Language and Composition, could win the award for “best dressed teacher,” as she is always wearing the most stylish clothes.
But Carlson is more than a great dresser; she’s the beloved head of the English department. As a graduate from University of Iowa, her wisdom and intelligence are respected by teachers and students alike.
She is adored by her students — her witty, sarcastic sense of humor always keeps the class smiling.
“She is incredibly kind and intelligent,” junior Hadley Bahr said.
Outside of school, Ms. Carlson is a loving and devoted mother. She has two children, a son in high school and a daughter in middle school.
When she isn’t teaching, she loves reading—like a classic English teacher. One of her favorite authors is Kurt Vonnegut, author of Slaughterhouse Five and many more.
Ms. Carlson will always give advice to students who need it, whether it is about personal life or writing essays.
“Ms. Carlson is my hero,” junior Henry Bernhart, a former student of Ms. Carlson’s, said with a grin.
If you are lucky enough to be enrolled in one of Ms. Carlson’s classes, be prepared to learn, to work hard, and to be inspired.
