There is one senior who will likely catch your eye whenever he steps onstage, or even simply walks through the front doors of LFHS.
Whether it be because of his broad, six-foot-two frame, his confident stage presence, or his humorous, yet gentle demeanor, senior Zach Demet stands out from the stereotypical performing arts kid at the high school.
Demet is an extremely active member in the theatre and music departments, having performed in at least nine shows. He also participates in varsity choir and sings in the holiday a cappella group, Madrigals.
Business and theatre teacher, as well as the director of the fall and winter plays, Joe Pulio said Demet is an “awesome” student.
“(As director) he is always trying to improve what he does; he’s extremely creative, and he’s a big leader,” Pulio said. “The thing I like most about him is that he’s got a great sense of humor, and he’s not afraid of getting feedback and then adjusting to it, especially onstage.”
Demet recently played the role of O’Brien, a mysterious and domineering antagonist, in the winter play, 1984. He has also been cast as a lead, Jim Haller, in the upcoming spring musical, All Shook Up.
“His caliber of acting over the four years has just grown tremendously to the point where we’re able to do better shows because of the abilities that he has,” Pulio said.
Not only is Demet praised for his talent and dedication to the arts, but he is also recognized for his humor, selflessness, and value as a friend.
“Zach is one the most caring, positive and selfless people I know. He is always someone who you love to be around due to his classic sense of humor and his contagious smile,” said senior Nikole Tzioufas, who works alongside Demet in the theatre and music department. “He really exemplifies the traits of what it means to be a true friend.”
Senior Grayson Pruett says she feels lucky to have Demet in her life.
“He always knows how to make not only my day brighter, but the world brighter. Zach Demet is one special guy and a gift to everyone around him.”
