LAKE FOREST, Ill. – At approximately 6:20 a.m. this morning, a 27-year-old woman was shot multiple times behind the Lake Forest Dunkin’ Donuts in the 600 block of N. Western, Avenue, according to city officials.

When authorities arrived to the scene, they located the woman and a dead man in the parking lot behind the store. The woman was transported to Lake Forest Hospital where she soon died from the gunshot wounds. Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper pronounced the man dead upon his arrival to the scene.

While the initial investigation is still ongoing, it appears the man and the woman had a domestic dispute, leading to a possible murder-suicide. The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force confirmed they were on the scene and will begin investigating the situation.

The shooting this morning is the second murder from gunshot wounds in recent months, as a man was fatally shot on the west side of Lake Forest back in October.

Lake Forest High School will operate as normal today as school officials were notified of the incident and were assured by city officials that there are no other threats to safety at this time.

Western Avenue will be closed between Deerpath and Illinois roads for the remainder of the day as the investigation into the murder continues. Those with plans to travel through the area should consider alternative routes.

The Forest Scout will update viewers as more details come in from this developing event.
