As shocking as it may seem, if you were to ask young Anthony Mordini what his favorite sport was, his answer would not have been basketball.

Although, as time went on he developed a massive love for the game. After being an intricate part of the basketball program at Lake Forest High School for the past four years, he was excited to recently announce his commitment to continue his career at Ohio Wesleyan University.

For Mordini, basketball became a part of his life at a young age. After years of playing feeder basketball for Lake Forest, and middle school basketball at DPM, he continued to play AAU basketball for Illinois Hoopstars and Team Greater Purpose.

Anthony was fortunate enough to have the same AAU coach for both years which heavily impacted him as a player and helped him get to where he is today.

“My teammates and coaches have helped me a lot throughout my journey and have made it enjoyable to keep playing,” said Mordini

Starting in High School being a starter on his freshman and sophomore year basketball teams eventually led him to start on the varsity team the past two years.

Senior Asa Thomas says Mordini is one of his “favorite teammates.”

“He is an awesome leader both visually and vocally. He has a tremendous work ethic and his game has grown every day,”  said Thomas

Not only has Anothony made a huge impact on the court but he has also impacted many off the court.

“He always brings joy to my day every time I see him and he always puts a smile on my face,” said teammate Noah Portalatin.

Anthony said he has created “brotherlike relationships” with his high school and AAU teammates.

When it came time to decide where he wanted to spend his next four years, he knew Ohio Wesleyan would be the best fit for him with its great academics and the successful basketball program.

Visiting the school back in October, Mordini was incredibly impressed with the beautiful campus and atmosphere. He knows the school will allow him to grow as a person, player, and athlete.

“Anthony is one of the hardest workers I’ve ever coached and has improved tremendously during his time in high school and provides great energy on our team,” said Coach Phil Lascala.

There’s no doubt that Anthony will make an impact on and off the court at Ohio Wesleyan as he has here at Lake Forest High School.
