All About The Outstanding Senior Athlete Award

All About The Outstanding Senior Athlete Award

Viola Swartout, Staff Writer

Calling all senior athletes… apply here for the Outstanding Senior Athlete Award and earn your spot on the Wall of Excellence at West Campus.

After more than a year of mitigations, masking, and cancellations, this year’s sports have brought back the normalcy we all needed and have cherished. Scout pride has been on full display.

The Wall at West Campus is a visual representation of that pride. The Wall of Excellence is a longstanding tradition at LFHS that recognizes senior athletes, the student body president, the senior class president, any seniors that place first in the state, and an accomplished band member.

Since 2000, the LFHS Boosters, along with their sponsor, Northshore Health Systems, have honored 15-17 students on the Wall of Excellence each year. Four of the spots on the wall are reserved for the two male and two female recipients of the Outstanding Senior Athlete Award.

These four athletes are chosen based on their leadership, sportsmanship, and athletic accomplishments during their high school sports career. Each athlete selected will receive a $1,000 scholarship and a larger-than-life image on the Wall of Excellence.

The winners of the OSAA will be announced at Honors Night, on May 26. In addition to the four OSAA winners, several finalists will be featured on the Wall as well. The finalists will be notified of their selection after Honors Night.

The mural for the 2022-23 school year will be unveiled during the first home football game next fall.

Last year’s winners of the OSAA were Bennett Duggan, Richie Hoskins, Kiley Rabjohns, and Tierney Sassen.

“Since my Freshman year, being on the wall was a goal of mine. And while seeing myself up there is amazing, it’s the hard work that it took to achieve it that I am the proudest of,” one of the past winners, Bennett Duggan, said. “It is nice to be celebrated for hard work and the Wall of Excellence does just that.”

The student OSAA application opened on March 1 and closes on March 31. Senior athletes can apply for the award here, please email Boosters Grants Committee Chair, Alana Hender, at [email protected] with any questions about the application and award.
