Evan+Jasica

As warm breezes begin to get crisper, grass and leaves begin to show a brown tinge, and more cars appear in front of a certain building off of North McKinley Road – the fact that school is coming becomes more clear. For some, that means pesky classes, for others, that means fall sports, and for band, it means marching.

Going into football season, the marching band prepares for an exciting year – but not without just a little bit of leaning on their leaders to guide the way.

This is where Evan Jasica steps in. With senior year as drum major now arriving, Evan is the chief backbone of every piece of music and every bit of marching seen out of the band this fall – and many who lead alongside him agree that he brings great qualities to the task.

“Evan leads the band with solid musical instincts and a calm demeanor,” band director Janene Kessler said. “I have always been impressed by his ability to see the big picture and lead others to accomplish shared goals.”

That respect and calm demeanor will come in handy this season, as the chaos of preparing 90 students for a performance of new music and a football game in merely seven days is at hand.

Jasica also has to lead new Junior drum major Margaret Jemian into the task, and a lot of her confidence in the position stems from the steady leadership she experienced from Jasica ever since their time together in the trombone section.

“The first time I met Evan was at my first day of Back to Band freshman year. I was the only new trombone there and the two of us sat in a room, and he taught me all the music I would ever need to know for marching season.” Jemian said.

She also cites his sense of community as a great foundation to build on.

“Evan’s ability to make everyone feel welcome and unified is absolutely unparalleled. He is a fantastic leader and a terrific friend.”

On this first Friday of the school year, preparation to go forward is the focus. And with Evan Jasica at the helm, that preparation seems all the more under control.
