Cecily Lynch
From just south of border in Guadalajara, Mexico, came a one-of-a-kind mother who can be seen in our own hallways as a substitute or driving around Lake Forest with her French bulldog.
Cecily Lynch is a mom who cares about nothing more than the people she loves around her and will always leave a positive long lasting impression with whomever she runs into. “My mom is relentless and does whatever she can for me and my siblings happiness and well being. Always calling to check in to see how we are doing but for some reason is able to clean the whole house and do laundry all at the same time. She deserves to have Mother’s Day every day,” said daughter Elizabeth Lynch.
You will never have a dull moment when Cecily is around; her smile is infectious, she always tries to make the best out of the worst situation by always putting her best foot forward in everything she does. Cecily’s personality is not only one of a kind but her cooking is something that is unmatched. Growing up in Mexico clearly brings a lot of Mexican cuisine influence to the kitchen. Whether it’s her outstanding breakfast tacos or her savory chicken enchiladas, it is very clear to tell why Mexican food is her specialty. Cecily was born in Guadalajara and lived there for 20 years before attending the University of Texas at Austin then graduating in 1984; later she got her teaching certification from UT. She then spent a few years in Paris attending the Cordon Bleu Cooking School and learning the language and cultural of France. As well as being the mother of five children, Cecily spends her time as a substitute teacher at D67 and D115 schools. She also enjoys playing paddle, tennis, and golf in the summer. Along with all of that, Cecily is a dedicated board member of the Allendale Shelter Club for 16 years and on The Women’s Board of Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital for 10 years. With five kids all past the age of 18, Cecily is no doubt a professional mother and understands the ups and downs of growing up in our community.
Long time friend Michele Glyman stated, “Probably the best thing I learned from Cecily was to have a sense of humor about raising kids. All of her children are happy, funny people that other people love to be around! I think a lot of people think it’s easy to raise kids that are fun and lighthearted, but it is actually quite a challenging thing to do. There were many times we gave you boys a big frown with a stiff talking to and the moment your backs were turned we laughed out loud! When things would happen that were especially trying, she would always say “you know, we’re doing the best we can. Looking at all of her kids now, her best was more than enough!”
With so much on her plate, she still remains to surprise everyone around her with her non-stop care, love, and enthusiasm for being the best mom. Happy Mothers Day!
