Julie Abdallah

Julie Abdallah is a woman who can take on the world and then some. She is a person young women look up to and strive to be like; she is strong, brave, caring and compassionate. On top of all of Julie’s adversity, she has always remained a strong presence in all her activities such as running her own nonprofit, The Hat Box Foundation, where she donates hats to cancer patients. She’s also a strong voice “Project Safe Prom,” and she volunteers at the hospital in Lincolnshire fitting cancer patients with wigs.

After talking to the community about Julie, there wasn’t one person who didn’t smile while I asked to say great things. Senior Kirsten Larson had this to share, “I can safely say Mrs. Abdallah is someone I know I could go to no matter the circumstance in any situation. She has this unconditional love that you can’t even put into words. She is such an amazing person and I feel very lucky to have her in my life. She makes me a better person just being around her and always reminds me about the positives in life. There needs to be more Mrs. Abdallahs in this world.”

Close friends of Katie Abdallah, Gina Sobhy and Kellie Jean Camardo, also had this to share:“Mrs. Abdallah never fails to make me feel welcome. She’s one of the most loving people I know, ” said Gina. Kellie Jean Camardo said, “She’s so fun and has the biggest heart out of anyone I know. Whenever we go over to the Abdallah’s, she gives us all huge hugs. She’s really just an awesome person to be around.” A few other seniors offered kind words about Mrs. Abdallah. “I have never met someone as giving and caring as Mrs. Abdallah. She is undeniably the kindest woman who always puts others before herself and lives her life to the absolute fullest. She is a great mother, kind friend, and amazing person,” senior Logan Hanekamp stated. She is one of the greatest human beings I have ever met. She acted as a second mom to me and was always there for me or my family,” said Will Freeman.

Mrs. Abdallah donated a bell to the chemo wing in the Lake Forest Hospital for patients to ring after their last session. She stated this when asked for her reason for the donation. “When I went to the Infusion Center for my first round of chemo, I was scared and wasn’t sure what to expect.  I kept thinking I can do this – anyone can do anything 12 times. I started the countdown – 12, 11, 10, all the way down to zero. When I got to the end, Dave and I wanted to celebrate. I got a nice certificate from the wonderful nurses but I wanted more of a celebration so I thought ringing a bell would be a good way to celebrate and let the other chemo patients know that soon they too would ring the bell. So I decided to donate a bell to the new Infusion Center at Lake Forest Hospital.  It hangs in the front as a beacon of hope for all those facing the bumpy road of chemo and triumph for those have reached their countdown.”  Two years later, she is still fighting cancer but “it warms my heart every time I hear someone ring the bell!”

Throughout many of life’s ups and downs in life, Mrs. Abdallah always stays positive and gives unconditional positive regard.  It clear that Julie Abdallah is a very loving and caring mother, friend, and highly respected community member; she is truly a woman who is unbreakable and someone we should all aspire to be.
