BLOOMINGTON, Ill.– After earning an NSC title and nearly taking home the Sectional crown in competitions earlier this month, the Lake Forest Varsity Dance team was looking to perform their best two routines of the season this weekend for a crack at the IHSA State Title in Competitive Dance.

The Scouts, who have yet to win a state title since Competitive Dance became an IHSA-sanctioned sport in 2012. After Friday’s preliminary round, the Scouts found themselves in 4th place position after scoring a 91.12, trailing only Lake Zurich (93.04), Geneva (93.02), and Antioch (91.20) after one round. On Saturday, the Scouts scored a 94.12, which was good enough to earn them a 3rd place trophy in 2A division. With their stellar final round performance, the Scouts were able to jump Antioch, who finished with a score of 92.38, and finished only behind Lake Zurich (95.38) and Geneva (94.94).

The trophy marks the Scouts’ second IHSA 3rd place trophy in the school’s history, the first coming in 2017 under then head coach Nikki Lazzaretto. The Varsity Dance team will now be traveling to Orlando, Florida in the coming week to participate in the UDA Nationals competition at Universal Studios.

Nationals is actually through a separate organization known as UDA. State is a competition for IHSA. Placing third was an accomplishment considering the amount of talented teams that attended the competition. It is an honor to make it to state, let alone make it on the podium. I can assure you the team is proud of themselves as well as for the teams who received first and second. The team can’t wait to be apart of UDA nationals this upcoming weekend alongside about 61 teams in the medium division for jazz and an additional 54 teams for pom (all of which are very lucky to be apart of the competition and worked hard to get there).
