Tennis: Week Recap

Tennis%3A+Week+Recap

Auto Draft 305

The Varsity Girls Tennis team picked up two significant wins over the last week, including a tournament win on Saturday. The Scouts traveled to Libertyville on Thursday with an intent to add another win to their schedule, and that’s exactly what they did. They entered the weekend invitational with immense focus and determination to continue their stride towards state.

The Scouts’ opened up strong on the Wildcats home court, putting five of the six matches away. The usual lineup included Rabjohns and Slomba on singles and Asmussen/Alsikafa, Wheldon/Belova, Paruchuru/Gescheidle, and the Goshgarian twins on doubles. Despite the fight that she put up, Slomba left Libertyville with one of her few losses on the year and the only one on the day. This was rare to see from one of the core units of the team; however, she did not carry that into Saturday’s tournament.

The Scouts finished in first place with Jakubowski and Slomba out in front winning all of their matches. They looked decisive with every shot they took as they outscored their opponents 48-8. Other key performances included senior captain Emily Asmussen and her doubles partner Salma Alsikafa. The duo provided clutch offense under pressure in the final round of the tournament as Barrington was trying to put an end to the Scouts reign. Although they hadn’t played Barrington before, Asmussen and Alsikafa displayed a higher amount of dominance and experience allowing them to shut the Broncos down in straight sets to secure first.

The Scouts have now advanced in the conference and obtained their second tournament win out of the three played. The Scouts (9-1) have a tough schedule ahead with Stevenson, the returning state champion, on the Patriots’ home court this Tuesday.
