The Lake Forest Scouts play in the PepsiCo Showdown in Gurnee tonight against the Warren Blue Devils. The Warren Blue Devils are currently 7-0 and the Scouts are 2-1. Lake Forest lost in the Grayslake (North) Class AA Sectional last year in the sectional championship game to Deerfield. They had a stellar journey and beat many opponents including Lakes and Wauconda before their journey ended with a 3-1 loss last May. Warren played in the Class 3A Palatine Sectional last spring, making it all the way to the semifinals. The Blue Devils aggressive play created victories over Highland Park and Mount Prospect before they lost to Libertyville’s powerhouse squad of soccer players.
Lake Forest has a wealth of new talent from their freshman class this year. Each player has a commitment to helping the team perform at their highest level by building upon the leadership of their senior classmates. Morgan Asmussen has plenty of experience from her days of club play for the Eclipse Select team and her defensive expertise is a key component on the back line. Asmussen is a very fast and fluid player; she reads the ball well and vocally challenges her defensive line in their play. She is an accomplished player who has great vision to read set plays and knows how to protect the ball from the opponent’s forwards.
The girls Varsity soccer team have some young goalkeepers who have proved to be fleet of foot and quick to move to block the ball. Sophia Divagno, a freshman, and Ainsley Allan, a sophomore have both had shutouts already this season so they have set the bar for each other as competitors. Watch out for the talented midfield duo of Delaney Williams and Ingrid Falls, who are coming off a slew of assists this season as well as a spectacular goal from Williams early in their schedule. This outing bodes well for the Scouts if they keep up their determined, focused play.
