This Wednesday, April 12th the Varsity Boys Lacrosse team takes on the New Trier Trevians at West Campus’ Varsity Field at 6:30pm in what is sure to be a tremendous game. New Trier and Lake Forest have quite a friendly rivalry that has developed–both on and off the field in recent years–so this is one game that the Scouts want to make sure they focus on. Annually, this North Shore event draws many spectators. New Trier is a formidable opponent that carries a legacy of winning many State Championships in Boys Lacrosse, which in recent years has been sanctioned as an IHSA sport.
The Scouts look to rebound after a lackluster performance against Loyola Academy this past Saturday where they were beat 13-1. It was a great day for playing outdoor sports, with warmer temperatures reaching nearly 70 degrees and plenty of sunshine, but this excitement of some Spring weather didn’t transfer into the win that the Scouts were looking for.The Scouts knew this would be a tough match-up as the Loyola Ramblers ended their season last year with impressive wins in the playoff bracket en route to the state final.
The Lake Forest Varsity lacrosse players have had a tough early start to their lacrosse season, which has allowed them to build some character and fortitude. They have already played last season’s State Champions, the Loyola Ramblers, who seemed to be riding on a wave of confidence carried over from last year as they repeatedly charged the Scouts’ net last Saturday.
The Scouts now face the New Trier Trevians, who lost to Loyola in the IHSA State Championship game last June and are ready to avenge a title they have won nine times since 2005. In the playoffs, the Scouts beat Warren Township in opening round play, but eventually lost to Naperville Central 16-12 in a closely fought game.
The seniors on Lake Forest’s team have much to be proud of, and their continual leadership development will be essential as they face the highly-touted Trevians. With pride on the line, it’s time for the leadership to step forward and demonstrate their lacrosse skills with determination and focus. The Lake Forest Scouts team has many talented players and the seniors have a slew of experience that will make them a worthy opponent.
In order to give themselves a chance, the Scouts will need to create some fast breaks from the wings to charge the crease against this equally experienced opponent. If they can create some explosive runs and fast passes, the Scouts should be able to create some great scoring opportunities. Look for a fast paced game against New Trier which will surely be exciting for all spectators.
