Justin McMahon, the three year Varsity point guard of the Lake Forest Scouts, has decided on DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana to continue his athletic and academic career. In the end, McMahon chose DePauw over Denison University in Ohio.
McMahon, who led the Scouts in scoring and assists this season, credited the emphasis on the true student-athlete and his relationship with the coaching staff and players for his decision. “Justin’s best basketball is far in front of him,” shared Varsity Assistant Coach Austin Scott, who watched McMahon grow from a freshman on the sophomore team to a two-time All-NSC performance and All-Area member of the Waukegan News-Sun in his senior year. “He has the tools to be a great student-athlete at the intercollegiate level. More importantly, though, Justin is a young man of tremendous character. He set a great example for our younger players on how to work, lead, and invest in something that you care deeply about.”
DePauw finished (12-14, 8-10) this season, losing to Denison in the NCAC tournament semifinals to end their season. The Tigers compete in the North Coast Athletic Conference and are led by Head Coach Bill Fenlon, a 1979 graduate of Northwestern University who will be in his 25th season next year as Head Coach of the Division III Indiana school. The Tigers graduate only two seniors from last year’s team and will have six returning players on next year’s squad that hail from the Chicagoland area.
