McCauley, Scouts Silence Stevenson in NSC Opener

It didn’t take long for the 2017 Lake Forest Scouts to prove their value to the North Suburban Conference. After being rained out the day before, the Scouts (2-2) traveled to Lincolnshire to take on their conference rival the Stevenson Patriots in the opening NSC contest of the 2017 season.

On the hill for the Scouts was senior Christian McCauley, who would go on to pace the Scouts with 5 inning, 3 hit, complete game shutout win in his second start of the season. Thus, the Scouts would only need one run to be victorious on Tuesday night, but they would provide plenty more for good measure.

The Scouts received major offensive contributions from junior Caleb Durbin (2-2, 2RBI, 2R), TCU-commit Brad Czerniejewski (2-2, 2RBI, 3R) and Paul Turelli (2-4, 4RBI), but their box score as a team was perhaps more impressive in their 14-0 win. The Scouts drew walks, saw pitches, slapped singles and doubles alike against Stevenson, who faces off against the Scouts again today.

“Any time you can start your conference season that way,” Coach Ray Del Fava addded, “especially against a well-coached, prepared team like Stevenson, you have to be feeling good about your team.”

The Scouts look to keep their bats hot this afternoon, weather permitting, when they face off against Stevenson at again in the second game of what was intended to be a 3-game conference season opening series.
