Valentine’s day is, of course, tomorrow, and if celebrating with a dinner and gifts with your boyfriend or girlfriend is your thing, have a great night. But there’s a special holiday the day before that you may have never heard of. You can be single or in a relationship for this holiday–it is very inclusive. If you’ve ever found yourself dreaming about a holiday that solely celebrates you and the love you have for your girlfriends or gals, Galentine’s Day is something you should mark on your calendar.
What is Galentine’s Day? It’s a legitimate question, especially if you don’t watch Parks and Recreation. Galentine’s Day is a holiday Amy Poehler’s Parks and Rec character, Leslie Knope, created that occurs every year on Feb. 13, the day before Valentine’s Day that celebrates you and you and your gals.
“If you can find a group of women, any age, who are supportive and kind and love you, that’s the best. I have a group of girlfriends that I would lay in front of a bus for. They’ve picked me up through really, really bad times and I can definitely say I’ve done the same for them.” — Katie Lowes, Scandal
Why not celebrate with your gal pals? Valentine’s day is over celebrated, in my opinion, especially in high school. Since Galentine’s is on a Tuesday this year, it will be a good break from the school week. Here are some ideas of how to celebrate with your good girl friends!
- Host a potluck dinner where everyone can show off their cooking skills!
- Make a rule of no phones or texting so you can spend good quality time with your friends for once!
- Go out for ice cream!
- Turn on some fun music and have a study sesh!
- Go get your nails done!
- Cook/bake something together
- Watch some rom coms!
- Write out a letter for each of your gals saying why you are thankful for them
You can also come out to CROYA for Galentine’s at around 6 p.m.. We will be hanging out, making sushi, possibly watching a movie, and of course… eating!! You can check the CROYA facebook page for more information!
