As winter sports wind down, spring sports are starting to gear up and the boys track team is looking to make some noise with a great season, eventually ending at the IHSA state meet come late May. The LFHS boys track team is returning two state-qualifiers this season in Landon Edwards and Tyler Trachsel, who run in the 4×100 and 4×200 meter relay events. These two will be joined by some other great returning athletes, including Tyjaun Scott, a high jumper, and Nate Schmitt, a distance runner who had a successful cross country season this fall.
Ben Rosa, Lucas Redding, Kyle Levin, Ryan Ransom, Jack Brush, and many others will look to help the Scouts earn an NSC title in 2018. The Scouts have a deep group of distance runners, carrying over almost all of the varsity cross country runners into the track season. The Scouts boast a potential superstar distance runner in sophomore Nate Schmitt, who just missed qualifying for the IHSA State meet this fall in cross country, and hopes to have their best distance group since 2010.
The Scouts are also excited to welcome some first-year track athletes in Ryan Cekay, the Scouts’ star football wideout, Rafi Riva, and Casey Hippel, who will all be able to make a huge impact early and will hopefully help take the Scouts to the IHSA state finals in their respective events.
Overall, the Scouts have a multitude of athletes that they can use and have high hopes for their runners this season at the state meet.
