The LFHS Girls Softball season recently started and the girls are eager to hit the field and impress their rivals. The team has quietly been preparing for this season and is ready to take on their opponents.
Not only are the players very excited for the season, but also Varsity Head Coach Mr. Jay Kleeman and Assistant Varsity Coach Megan Carney cannot wait to see the team thrive, hopefully get a conference win, and win a play-off game in the regionals.
“Almost everybody is fully committed to making this team competitive not only for this year but for years to come. They want to be the team that turned this program around,” said Kleeman.
The team is feeling prepared as they have trained in the off season in numerous open gyms.
Additionally, they have many talented freshmen joining the team this year, which puts them ahead of where they started last season. Some players play outside the season on recreational or travel teams.
“I am excited to see how we improve. I think that we have a lot of potential, and I am excited to see how we will be able to build on our successes from last year,” said junior Natalie Lamartin.
The girls continue to work, building on the foundation of fundamentals as well as building a strong teamwork. The team is a good group and the girls have built strong connections so far. According to many players, every player shows leadership that helps the team improve.
“With the combination of having more returns this season, along with a bigger group of freshmen, the team got along really well right out of the gate. Everyone is really excited about our out-of-practice activities and team bonding, and it’s nice to see everyone be so involved,” said senior Nadia Breedt.
The team’s next game is on April 1 vs. North Suburban Conference opponent Waukegan.
