Girls water polo stuns Libertyville

Girls+water+polo+stuns+Libertyville

LAKE FOREST, Ill– Last night, the Lake Forest girls water polo team hosted Libertyville for a highly anticipated conference matchup. Both teams knew that this was going to require every trick in the book in order to secure a win. The game was close for the entire 28 minutes, as no team ever held more than a one-point lead. The score was 3-3 in what could’ve been the final possession of the game. The Wildcats were driving down the pool putting their full pressure on the Scouts. Starting goalie Amalia Liguori-Coneff made another miraculous save and gave relief to her teammates so that the game would be sent into overtime. Amalia had other plans, with about 15 seconds left she told her team to head down and set up another offensive play. With :10 left, both teams had made it down to the other side of the pool and Amalia started swimming closer to them with the ball. With :5 seconds left in regulation and the Wildcats playing stellar defense, Liguori-Coneff couldn’t find an open player to pass to. From behind the halfway mark of the pool, she shot the perfect arc shot into the upper right corner of the goal, just out of the reach of the Libertyville goalies hands and winning the game for the Scouts.

Senior Isabelle Moore gave a great game summary for TFS. “It was a really hard game from the beginning. We were both constantly neck and neck, but I feel like we really came together in the third and fourth quarter and brought in not only better defense, but offense as well. We had some really good communication and the whole team never stopped trying to shoot. Amalia saved us when she took a killer shot from half court in the last five seconds of the game, taking our 3-3 score and raising us by one point. I’ve never been more proud about how our team handled ourselves, and the effort put forward”

Tonight the girls head to Maine South High School to face the Hawks. Be sure to make the trek to support the Scouts as jv plays at 5:00 and varsity at 6:00.
