After their disappointing defeat last Monday against Highland Park, the Scouts’ resilience was tested in a conference matchup versus Mundelein. The Scouts looked like they were playing with a chip on their shoulder as they wiped the competition clean in all seven courts. They took home the win 7-0 with little to no resistance from Mundelein.

The Scouts jumped out in front with their prominent pair of Kiley Rabjohns and Alex Slomba playing on the number one and two courts per usual. Both looked overpowering as they took down their opponents in straight sets without giving up a single game to Mundelein. Sophomore Gabbie Jakubowski made her appearance as the third singles player for the Scouts. After her loss last week, Jakubowski looked proficient in taking down Mundelein’s Bailey Emil. Like her fellow teammates, she won twelve games in a row setting an example for the rest of the team that they would soon follow.

The Scouts continued their success in the doubles grouping, not allowing Mundelein to put any points on the board. After the numerous losses in the doubles parring last week, Coach Denise Murphy decided to switch up partners in an effort to change the results. Nika Belova and Olivia Wheldon were selected to play with each other on court one for the Scouts, leaving Salma Alsikafi and Emily Asmussen to play together, a pair that would most certainly not disappoint. All four of the Scouts’ doubles teams won in straight sets against the Mustangs, with two of them being flawless, Clara Goshgarian/Grace Gescheidle and Alsikafi/Asmussen.

The Scouts were in control the whole day despite the high temperatures and humidity. With five out of the seven matches ending without a game won by their opponents, the Scouts have regained their confidence and are preparing to make an impact within the conference. “We all powered through the heat and never lost our focus against Mundelein. We all came out with a goal to win and left everything out on the court,” Asmussen said. The Scouts are now 2-1 and are looking forward to their next match on Thursday against Lake Zurich.
