People seem to constantly alter their appearance, whether it is with makeup, clothing, accessories, hair style/color or the occasional cosmetic surgery (maybe even a little tummy tuck). All of these modifications serve a certain purpose for the individual. There has been a pressing question pertaining to the changes people make. Personally, I believe that the reason a multitude of women and men dye their hair blonde is because of the age old saying, “blondes have more fun.” But what do the students of LFHS students think? Do blondes really have more fun?
Josselyn Joanem, a junior at LFHS, has rocked many hairstyles in the past year but recently decided to go from dark and bold hairstyles to chic and sheer blonde, mentioned that she loves it. “I definitely have more fun! Anyone can be blonde; it’s just the matter of finding your right shade.”
Lili Parasiuk, a senior at LFHS, has been one of a kind when it comes to hair styles. She fabulously pulled off a shaved head last year (which many cannot do) and now that it is growing out, you can see her perfectly formed curlicue hair bouncing as she walks down the halls. “Hell yeah! Blondes definitely have more fun. I don’t really know where the stereotype comes from, but it’s definitely in my head sometimes when I having a good time!!”
Dr. Huffman, a social worker at LFHS who is always greeting others with her shining face, is notable for her her hair as well, which is almost as bright as her smile. Here is what she had to say about being a blonde, “I have been blonde all my life, but decided to go brown for a year. The day I went back to blonde, I was walking out of the salon in the city… and I suddenly started feeling all these glances from people on the street as I walking around, shopping… I thought, ‘what on earth are these people looking at?’ Is there something wrong with my outfit? Toilet paper hanging out of my back? Nope! it was just my new blonde hair! I had never noticed before that blondies get more glances! So, it’s more fun – clearly… ;)”
Freshman Kenzie Jackson is new to LFHS, but is notable for her luscious, silky blonde locks and her Tennessee accent. She obviously loves being a blonde: “Blonde is better. You can say anything remotely smart and people flip because they assume we’re all naturally dumb— we get to blow their minds every time. People see the blonde hair and know it’s a good time”
Multiple sports teams around the world have traditions that alter their appearance. In LFHS, in particular, the varsity sports teams embrace a change to signify their sport or a specific achievement. Recently, the men’s swim team decided to bleach their hair. I believe that this change in hair color is due to the often heard idea that it’s more fun to be blonde. These varsity swimmers do believe that blondes have more fun, although this was not their reasoning behind the change. Still, they still noticed a significant difference in mood.
I think the conclusion can be drawn that, without a doubt, blondes do have more fun. In my case, my hair is the feature to my appearance. This saying obviously came to me with underlying truth. Blondes have more fun and I don’t see this statement ever being revoked from society.
