Club Spotlight: Future Business Leaders of America

Club+Spotlight%3A+Future+Business+Leaders+of+America

Future Business Leaders of America is a national organization with over 250,000 members and over 5,200 chapters. One of those chapters, as of two years ago, is Lake Forest High School. The FBLA LFHS chapter is led by LFHS senior and business enthusiast Mady Kung. Mady, who has an interest in economics, is heading the FBLA chapter with the help of business teacher Ms. Dexter. The club is designed for students of all ages and levels of interest in business at Lake Forest High School.

FBLA meets every other Thursday and has a mission to develop “aggressive business leadership” education for high school students, according to Mady. Students in the club learn real world skills for future careers and business endeavors. Main categories of discussion and interest include professional, social, and community service discussions.

An average meeting of FBLA would include a group discussion of a real world event and how it applies to students at Lake Forest High School. Other meetings would feature local guest speakers discussing their own experience in the business world.

As well as learning practical and relevant business skills, students involved in FBLA are invited to join in on the competitive spirit of the club. FBLA hosts regional, state, and national competitions for chartered clubs. Club members prepare for competitions weeks in advance to prepare for a specific event, such as a job interview, an accounting competition, and public speaking. Depending on the event, students work together individually or in teams, and judges evaluate and decide on winning places and awards.

FBLA at Lake Forest High School meets every other Thursday in the business incubator classroom. Students in the business classes at the high school get extra credit for attending. No prerequisites required, according to Mady, just a good attitude.

For more information, visit the FBLA website, or email Mady Kung at [email protected].
